Marriage Saturday: Strengthening Intimate Bonds

February 5, 2022

Start: 8:45 am

End: 3:45 pm

Location: Cedar Springs Watershed Building

Marriage is wonderful, and marriage is hard. Whether you’re newly married or celebrating 50 years, you know, it takes effort to have a strong marriage. Marriage Saturday is all about strengthening your marriage. Our marriages all have different seasons, and can always use some attention. If you’re in a good, healthy place, come and take it a little deeper. If you long to feel connected with your partner again, come and revitalize your marriage.
Everyone needs a secure bond with another. This bond offers us a safe haven in the world. Couples get in distress when they become disconnected and that bond does not feel secure. This conference is based on the therapy model Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy by Sue Johnson. It will help you better understand romantic love and the pivotal moves and moments that define your relationship. You will be able to shape the positive moments of reaching and responding that create a secure bond. A safe, loving, lasting bond is entirely possible if we have a map. This is a conference that provides that map.
This conference will help you and your spouse feel safe, secure and connected by enabling you to:
  • Understand the underlying reasons you get into struggles over and over
  • Change negative patterns that leave you frustrated, angry and hurting.
  • Express needs and longings
  • Engage in conversations keeping your love alive and secure

Our guest speaker will be Dana Vince, M.A. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. She is the founder and owner of Healing Hearts Counseling Center here in Knoxville. She grew up on Long Island in New York. After serving in the United States Army for 4 years, she moved to Tampa, Florida where she earned her master’s degree in Counseling. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with couples. She saw in her own life how people who love each other end up hurting each other and she wanted to understand this better and help people learn to love one another well. She wanted to learn how to help people heal their wounded places. She has always had a soft place in her heart for others’ pain. She wanted to understand more about how this love thing works and why it’s so hard. It has become her life’s work to counsel couples and families on how to communicate in ways that nurture one another and form deeper bonds in their relationships. She moved to Knoxville in 2010 and it was at that time that she began training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, which brought a whole new level of understanding and useable tools that she began to implement in my practice. And while she knew the research behind this method was strong, nothing compared to seeing with her own eyes the incredible healing impact this type of therapy had on the couples she was working with and in her own relationships. She continued her training and efforts to master this model of therapy and in 2012 she became an EFT supervisor and started training other therapists.

The cost is set to $40 per couple (and includes lunch and snacks!) and registration will close at the end of the day on Feb 2.

FAQs

Q: Would this conference be helpful for marriages that are already strong and healthy?

A: Yes, of course! We can all benefit from learning how to communicate more effectively and to understand our marriage “dances” more accurately. This conference will be helpful for marriages of all ages and stages, even those who are engaged and have yet to be married.

Q: Will childcare be available?

A: Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer childcare for this all-day event. We have intentionally kept the prices extremely low to account for those who have to pay for a sitter/childcare at home for the day.

Q: Can I attend by myself if my spouse cannot join me?

A: While it is most beneficial when both spouses can attend the conference together, anyone is welcome to come individually.
