I’m CSPC member Angela Cottrell, and this is how I’m living deeply this summer. Soccer has always been a part of my life. I grew up playing the game and had my dad as my coach in the early years. I always knew I’d coach one day. When I joined Cedar Springs in 2018, coaching became the perfect way to combine my love for the game, my church, and kids. Mike Wenger was a huge encouragement to me early on. He helped me see that our real purpose out on the field is to love and encourage the kids in our community—to show them the love of Jesus Christ. What a joy it’s been! Last year, I saw the ELL pick-up games listed on the church website and decided to show up. That first night, Bob Mackey and I connected instantly—our shared love of the game was clear, but even more so was the potential we both saw in what was happening on that field. We watched people from all different countries and languages come together through soccer. It was beautiful. Every week, the turnout grew. This year, we’ve extended the event through July because of the incredible response. We hope that every person who steps on that field feels seen, welcomed, and loved. Come join us—we’d love to have you!
